Dancers from Gira Sol perform
in From Rio To Havana (2003)
|
~ special Rio To Havana II guests ~
Jose Carrion is the principal dancer of Ballet Folklorico Cutumba from Cuba,
undoubtedly the most vibrant and spectacular of the national Cuban folkloric
companies. He makes his home in Santiago de Cuba in the island's tropical eastern
seaboard; this performance marks his first-ever visit to the
Pacific Northwest. Expect Jose to perform energetic and athletic Afro-Cuban as well as traditional, sensuous Cuban favorites. Accompanying him in performance will
be an all-star Cuban ensemble led by Seattle drummer Matt
Dressler.
Seattle choreographer Janelle Keane Campoverde
will present her seasoned troupe of beautiful dancers, Gira Sol,
performing traditional and popular dances of Brazil including samba, samba reggae,
maracatu and baiao. Featured with them will be vocalist Samia Panni,
dancer and percussionist Pacifico, and
Brazilian orixa dancer Antonio Ribiero.
Accompanying the dancers will be the Seattle-based Brazilian ensemble Batuque,
whose performances always guarantee brining the audience to its feet to dance.
